About

Rowan and I met in 2006 and instantly found things in common. Primarily, we each intended to volunteer in both Africa and South America and had chosen careers well suited to this. Rowan has worked as a paediatric nurse since 2006 and a photographer since 2009, and I have worked as a midwife since 2007. Initially based in Wellington, New Zealand, we married in 2009 and plan to spend a significant part of our working lives in third world countries.

Rowan and I are committed christians who advocate for social justice in many forms. Our Mission In Life blog was started as a way to voice part of this advocacy and also to record the action we intend to back it up with. Our hope is that it serves to inspire people like ourselves who are angered by the many forms of social injustice, yet remain unsure how to step out against it.

During 2011 we trained with Iris Ministries in Mozambique before beginning a one year+ mission through Latin America. Mission In Life details the ultimate road trip as we travel with a large team through every country in central and South America, bringing the reality of God’s love and serving in whatever way is necessary to unite people with their creator.

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work and walking around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit in without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to it’s level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”
Romans 12:1-2
